0800 Numbers Can Make Sure Your Business Never Misses Another Call

Many UK businesses that own 0800 numbers are really excited about a new telecoms feature which has the major advantage of being able to divert all incoming calls if your lines are busy or if there is no answer.

This feature is called “Divert calls on Busy or No Answer” or DOBNA for short.

Simply put it means your business never need miss another phone call.

A custom plan can be set up which can involve up to 5 separate telephone numbers. The plan can include landline numbers, mobile phone numbers and answer phones. You can choose how many seconds the call rings at each number before it rolls over to the next number on the custom plan. This means your incoming phone calls follow you around wherever you may be.

Example 1: Let’s say you have to leave the office urgently, after 10 seconds of ringing at your desk the call will follow your custom plan and divert through to your mobile. If your mobile phone is busy or you don’t answer it then after a set length of time (prescribed by you) the call will then divert to the receptionist at your office who deals with the call.

Example 2: You are all ready on the phone when an important customer rings, the call diverts to the next number on the list you provide us with, however, this person is away from their desk in an internal meeting so the call then diverts to voicemail.

Diverting calls on busy or no answer is ideal for UK businesses because:

• If you are in and out of the office a lot as it will make sure your calls still get answered

• It makes sure your customer always has a contact point

• It allows the calls to be transferred to a mobile, another landline or a voicemail which means you will never miss a call

• If you are away from the office you can still answer a call.

Divert on busy or no answer (DOBNA) allows us to route calls to alternative numbers if you are not available. This makes your best customer feel happy that you are always available. All you need to do is supply your alternative contact details.

0800, 0844 and 0845 Fax to Email Services – the Green, Environmentally Friendly Alternative

I’m not proud of it but the sales office I used to work in (in another lifetime many years ago) used to have a rather peculiar method of ascertaining the business potential of its prospect list:

“If they haven’t got a fax machine we don’t want to talk to them.”

Only a decade later things have changed drastically. It’s now very hard for me to work out why anyone in the purchasing department would go out and use their company’s hard earned profits to invest in a fax machine.

Let’s face it – fax machines are pretty environmentally unfriendly. Firstly, they need to be left switched on all the time which uses up power and secondly, they can use up vast quantities of paper with messages that are printed out and, for the most part, read once and then deposited directly in the rubbish bin.

Many businesses are now realising that there is a greener, more environmentally friendly way of handling faxes within the office. Businesses are now able to use non-geographic numbers and point them directly to an email address. Non-geographic numbers include 0800, 0844 and 0845 numbers. On the other hand, geographic numbers “belong” somewhere and can be identified by their prefix or area code eg London has an 0207 area code.

If you use a non-geographic number pointed at your email address it means all faxes are delivered to your PC rather than your fax machine. The immediate green advantage is that faxes don’t have to be printed out because they can be viewed on screen. This saves paper and protects the environment. You can still choose to print out your faxes out if you want to but you should be mindful that every time you hit the delete button to get rid of an unwanted fax you have saved one sheet of paper – that is going to make a huge difference to your organisation’s paper wastage over the course of a year. It’s going to save a heck of a lot of trees too.

Emails that are received using a fax to email service can easily be stored and later retrieved using your PC rather than being hole punched and filed away to gather dust on a shelf in your office.

There are some other perhaps less obvious advantages to using an 0800, 0844 and 0845 number fax to email service. Non-geographic numbers offer businesses great flexibility. If your business decides to relocate then you will not have to go through the hassle of trying to take all your numbers with you. Your non-geographic fax to email number is yours for life and can go wherever you go. This saves your business time, energy, stress and money.

Most customers will usually prefer to send a fax at no cost to them by using an 0800 fax number.

The non-geographic number fax to email feature cannot be added to an existing 0800, 0844 or 0845 number that is used for voice. You would need to order another non-geographic number in this case.

Social Media Package for £199

DBS is offering a Social Media Package for £199 which includes the setup of a Facebook and Twitter page for your business.

Social networks now receive more UK Internet visits than search engines.

During May, social networks accounted for 11.88% of UK Internet visits and search engines accounted for 11.33%. May was the first ever month that social networks have been more popular than search engines in the UK, in terms of visits.

Facebook accounts for 55% of all UK social networking visits, almost three times as many as the next most popular social network, YouTube. Twitter, one of the fastest growing and most talked-about websites of the last two years, is now the third most popular social network in the UK, putting it ahead of former favourites such as Bebo and MySpace.

The new .co domains are here...

The new .co domains have been greeted with a fanfare of the kind you would associate with a coronation or news that Wayne Rooney will be fit for the World Cup.

Businesses are being invited to bid for the new .co domains if they have their own trademark.

As usual the minions will wait for whatever scraps are left.

It's a good idea to protect all extensions of your domain name ie fredbloggs.com, fredbloggs.co.uk etc but at a few hundred quid a pop it's a bit steep at this stage.

I am mindful of the excitement caused by the new .tel domain that was heralded as invaluable. One year later you hear nothing much about them....

London 0203 0207 & 0208 Phone Numbers

DBS can offer businesses London Phone Numbers with the following STD code prefixes: 0203, 0207 and 0208.

This gives companies the chance to give themselves a corporate feel without having to pay the rent on expensive London premises. The London Numbers also work out a lot more cost effective than having a London virtual office.

"The range of London numbers show that DBS is committed to providing new products for its customers backed by the highest quality service" Michelle Waddingham of DBS telecoms explained.
